Peptide shelf life reference table

Short answer

A reconstituted vial is generally treated as good for around 28 days refrigerated, roughly 60 days frozen, and only a few days at room temperature. Sealed powder keeps for months. The table below lists the window used for each of the 66 compounds in our library, with the storage note that comes with it.

Days once reconstituted and kept at 2–8 °C. Freezing roughly doubles it, to about 60 days, if frozen only once. Sealed powder keeps for months. Method and limitations below.

Method, and what this table is not

Two honest caveats, because a table like this invites more confidence than it deserves.

The day counts are practice conventions, not measurements. The 28-day refrigerated figure is the standard beyond-use period for a preserved multi-dose vial once a needle has been through the stopper, from USP General Chapter <797> and repeated in CDC injection safety guidance. It is about sterility and good practice. It is not a stability assay for any one peptide, and it only holds because bacteriostatic water contains a preservative.

Published stability research is about peptide and protein pharmaceuticals in general. Temperature, light-driven oxidation, freeze–thaw cycling and interface-driven aggregation from shaking are all well documented as degradation routes, but rarely for a specific research compound at a specific concentration. Where a number here is a convention rather than a result, we say so rather than dressing it up.

The storage instructions supplied with your own vial always take precedence over this table.

Common questions

How long does a reconstituted peptide vial last?

As a general convention, about 28 days refrigerated at 2-8 C, roughly 60 days frozen, and only a few days at room temperature. The 28-day figure is the standard beyond-use period for a preserved multi-dose vial after first puncture (USP <797>, repeated in CDC injection safety guidance) rather than a stability assay for any individual compound.

Does sealed powder last longer than a mixed vial?

Yes, by months. Lyophilised powder is stable refrigerated and better still frozen. The two situations are frequently confused, which is where most contradictory advice online comes from.

Can I freeze a vial that is already mixed?

Freezing extends the window, but only if it is frozen once. Freeze-thaw cycling is a recognised stressor that drives unfolding and aggregation, so repeatedly taking a vial in and out is what causes damage.

Is a vial unusable the day it passes 28 days?

No. It is a sensible point to stop relying on it, which is different from a chemistry deadline. Degradation is gradual and invisible, so appearance proves nothing either way.
